Healthy Homes-Healthy Children (HHHC) provides free home assessments for families. We inspect homes for a variety of environmental hazards, including lead, mold, and radon, which pose health risks especially to young children. HHHC is a nonprofit outreach program based at Allegheny College and coordinated by Caryl Waggett in the Department of Environmental Science. HHHC focuses on the importance of a healthy home for children as a means to reduce the incidence of diseases originating in the home. Call HHHC at (814) 332-2164 and set up your free appointment today or e-mail us at hhhc@allegheny.edu.
The circulating laptops and projectors that were originally available through Scheduler can now be booked through Allecat, the library's on-line catalog. Simply do a search for "laptop computer" or "media projector" and use the "Book this Material" option. A brief tutorial for booking can be found at: http://www.allegheny.edu/resources/library/you/booking_equipment.php.
The Meadville Market House is pleased to bring you a convenient option for buying local produce. In a CSA, subscribers pay a fee in advance and then receive local fruits and vegetables weekly over a ten-week period. This program will start the week of July 14 and end in mid-September. Each box of produce comes with a newsletter complete with simple-to-prepare recipes. The cost is $40/week for a family of four and $20/week for a two-person subscription. The money goes to a local farm, and the cost helps to subsidize Summer’s Bounty for local senior citizens ($6/week for one). Free delivery is offered for seniors, sponsored by the Market House, SJ Wholesome Foods, and the Davies Family. To subscribe, or for more information, send an email to asjoland@zoominternet.net
Information on Allegheny College Summer Camps can be found here. Please register as soon as possible if your children are interested in attending.
The Dance and Movement Studies Program will host the annual Summer Dance Intensive August 11-22. Classes in Modern Technique, Improvisation, and Composition will be taught by Joan Meggitt and members of Antaeus Dance. This intensive workshop is free to Allegheny DMS students and faculty. Please call x2813 for more information.
